What is Interpersonal Effectiveness and NVC, and why is it important?

Interpersonal Effectiveness is what we call the Core Competency for our East Module in Kalapa.

(A Competency is something you can get better at, and our eight modules are organized along the directions of the compass.)

Interpersonal Effectiveness is the foundation for healthy relationships, which are an essential part of a high-quality life.

Unhealthy relationships can be a source of stress, distraction, fewer possibilities, missed opportunities, and diminished results.

Nonviolent Communication (NVC) is one of the Best Practices that we teach in the East Module, which can help you create high quality connections out of which people naturally and spontaneously choose to contribute to one another's well-being.

Where does NVC come from?

NVC was developed by Dr. Marshall Rosenberg, who dedicated his life to studying the elements of thought, language, communication, and power that lead to authentic human connection.

Why is NVC an important part of Kalapa?

Kalapa is dedicated to empowering Changemakers (like you) to be effective in all areas of life, including personal and professional relationships.

If you want to be effective in any group and thrive in your efforts, you need to know how to prevent and resolve misunderstandings and conflicts, and how to consistently bring relationships to mutually beneficial outcomes and results. This is where knowing NVC becomes invaluable.

What can I use NVC for?

Nonviolent Communication, which was named out of a sense of alignment with Gandhi's movement of truth-telling and compassion, is a world-famous, proven, time-tested methodology for:

• Offering compassionate understanding to others,
• Knowing when and how to ask for that same understanding for yourself,
• Creating mutual understanding without coercion,
• Speaking your truth in a clear, powerful way that is more likely to lead to harmony than conflict,
• Preventing and resolving misunderstandings and conflicts,
• Creating exceptional personal and professional relationships.
